Zero Waste SG launches second Bring Your Own Bag campaign at 8 supermarkets
It features reusable bag racks to encourage grocery shoppers to donate or take reusable bags.
A three-month Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) campaign was launched on Saturday (Feb 11) to encourage members of the public to use reusable bags when they go grocery shopping.
Organised by Zero Waste SG (ZWSG), the campaign aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of disposable items, especially its direct impact on climate.
It features 24 roving roadshows at eight supermarket outlets, where ZWSG representatives will offer pre-loved bags to grocery shoppers while gathering sentiments via a short survey on disposable carrier bag charges.
With the majority of supermarket outlets set to charge a minimum of five cents for plastic bags by mid-2023, ZWSG will educate grocery shoppers on how they can cultivate the habit of BYO to reduce the use of disposables, as opposed to paying charges for disposable carrier bags.
A reusable bag rack is also set up at roadshows to encourage shoppers to donate excess reusable bags and to take those donated by others, if required.
The roadshows will run across most weekends till Apr 30, with major supermarkets FairPrice, Sheng Siong, Cold Storage and Giant participating in the campaign.
ZWSG launched its first BYP Singapore movement in 2017 and has since garnered support from more than 1,100 outlets from over 140 companies.
