Young Singapore paddlers Izaac Quek, Ser Lin Qian qualify for world youth championships
The International Table Tennis Federation 2021 World Youth Championships commences on Dec 2 in Portugal.
Singapore youth paddlers Izaac Quek and Ser Lin Qian have qualified for the 2021 World Youth Championships in Portugal.
The tournament will be held from Dec 2 to Dec 8.
Their qualifications were announced by the Singapore Table Tennis Association in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Oct 12).
Izaac, 15, made headlines earlier this year when he became the first Singaporean to top the Under-15 world ranking in April. He clinched the Cadet Boys’ singles title without losing a single game at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Swedish Junior and Cadet Open.
Izaac started training with the Singapore Table Tennis Association when he was seven years old.
Meanwhile, Lin Qian was awarded the prestigious ITTF 2021 With The Future In Mind (WFIM) scholarship in June this year. She was one of only 30 selected paddlers worldwide.
The WFIM is a joint program by the ITTF and the Olympic Solidarity which seeks to support promising young table tennis players. The program will provide scholars additional training and competition opportunities to aid them in qualifying for upcoming Olympic Games or Youth Olympic Games.
The 2021 World Youth Championships will feature the very best paddlers within two categories: Under-15 and Under-19.
