Free industry workshops and interactive booths will be held at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre on Jul 23 as part of the WorldSkills ASEAN Competition 2023.

Initiated by an agreement among ASEAN member countries in 1993, the competition aims to promote and raise industry skill standards in the ASEAN region to an international level. It is also a platform for youths to develop their skills and knowledge in industries that are relevant to their desired career pathways, according to the organisers.

This is the first time Singapore will play host to the event.

Members of the public can look forward to interactive displays by 42 companies from various industries which include creative arts and fashion, engineering, social and personal services, infocomm technology as well as transport and logistics.

The interactive displays are part of free workshops that will cover the basic skill requirements of each industry from 9am to 5pm. Participants will also get the chance to explore and develop their interests and apply their learning in real-world contexts.

Among the companies that will host these booths include well known multinational corporations (MNC) such as Huawei International, where participants will be able to see and have a quick feel on how to train a machine to recognise objects or images.

Another MNC company that will make an appearance is Amazon Web Services (AWS) Singapore. Participants can learn more about AWS cloud computing with hands-on interactive panels and learn how to acquire cloud skills that employers value.

Apart from the interactive workshops and booths, those interested can spectate the top youth talents from the 10 ASEAN countries competing in 22 skill areas such as web technologies, cooking, mobile robotics and graphic design.
