What to expect at arts and sneaker exhibition Sneakertopia
The exhibition spans 10 zones with 13 never-before-seen artworks and rare shoe collections.
After successful runs in Los Angeles and New York, sneaker and street culture exhibition Sneakertopia has made its first Asian stop at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore.
Titled Sneakertopia: Step Into Street Culture, the exhibition will run from Feb 25 to Jul 30, featuring 10 zones with 13 never-before-seen artworks and shoe collections.
The exhibition celebrates the diversity of sneaker culture, traces its history and examines its powerful connections with various genres such as entertainment, technology, contemporary art, hip-hop, sports, and fashion, Marina Bay Sands Singapore announced in a press release on Feb 23.
Aside from works by 13 renowned artists from the United States including McFlyy, Michael Murphy, and Mimi Yoon, visitors can expect to see works by 17 locals and locally-based creatives and contributors. This is specially curated for the Singapore edition of the exhibition.
From artists like soph O, tobyato and Kristal Melson, to designers like Josiah Chua, Pek Shun Ping and Mr. Sabotage, these creatives were selected for their contributions to the rise of sneaker and street culture in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Visitors can also make purchases at the concept store that holds a range of unique and exclusive collectables. These include apparel from JJ Lin’s lifestyle label SMG, rare sneakers from local sneaker boutique Limited Edt, and other merchandise.
Aside from the exhibition, a specially curated film programme will run concurrently at the ArtScience Cinema on Level 4, featuring classics like Space Jam (1998) and Black Panther (2018).
The brainchild of Emmy Award-winning producer Steve Harris and Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur Steve Brown, Sneakertopia was created to share their love for sneakers with people of all ages and backgrounds.
“Whether you come in to take photos or read information or admire murals and artworks, it’s not only entertaining but also educational. Everybody will enjoy something about this,” said Steve Harris.
Located at Level 3 of ArtScience Museum, Sneakertopia: Step Into Street Culture will run 10am to 7pm daily from Feb 25 to Jul 30.
Tickets are available for purchase at all Marina Bay Sands box offices and its website. Guests are strongly encouraged to pre-purchase tickets online before their visit.
