Things I learnt from working in an all-female office
Lessons you will never learn in boys' school.
With our interns moving in and out of the Youth.SG office so often, there are times when I am the only guy in a sea of oestrogen and progesterone. Here are six lessons I have learnt from working, and surviving, in an all-female environment.
1. Women's toilets are more disgusting than men's ones
Not that I checked, but the number of complaints my female colleagues had about their toilet spoke for itself.

And when the female toilet underwent renovation and the male toilet was temporarily converted to a female one (because there were that many more women on my floor), the ladies were all amazed at how clean the male toilet was in comparison.
2. Girls can be as cheeky as guys
When you put enough girls together, they start acting like guys. The same can be said of girls from all-female schools right?

Nothing is taboo when girls are complaining about parts of their bodies, from their tormenting uterus to their butt being undesirable to guys.
Side note to guys: If your female friends ever ask you what kinds of butts you like, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
3. Periods synchronise when girls spend enough time together
This might happen if your colleagues spend a lot of time in close proximity.

So when the first of your colleagues has a sudden change in mood, you better bring enough chocolates for all the ladies in the department the next day – just in case. And yes, chocolates seem to help.
4. The difference between a sports bra and a normal bra
The difference between a sports bra and a normal bra with cups is basically the difference between the soft, foldable N95 mask and the hard ones distributed by community centres during the haze.

One is a lot more comfortable than the other. The other is…well…more visually appealing.
5. Girls give awesome relationship advice
When you are trying to figure out how to approach a girl you are interested in, a group of female friends can give the most astute advice. There was this one time I sought advice from two groups of friends regarding a girl I was interested in.

My guy friends took two days to tell me they had no idea what to do, while my female colleagues gave me an amazing breakdown of the options. Having said that however…
6. Sometimes, even girls cannot understand girls
While there are times your girl friends can help you understand the complex psychology of the fairer sex, there are also times that even they cannot understand why other females act in a certain way.
So take heart my fellow men, if you are unable to fully comprehend your female friends, just remember that sometimes they cannot understand themselves either.

Disclaimer: I love my colleagues and am writing this tongue-in-cheek article more to reminisce the funny memories than to make a statement about gender. So please don’t castrate me.
