Telegram Premium launching in June with faster speeds and higher media limits
The paid subscription will improve user experience without affecting non-subscribers.
Telegram will be introducing a new subscription plan called Telegram Premium in June 2022, announced app founder Pavel Durov on Jun 10.
It will grant members exclusive access to higher media limits, faster speed, additional features and resources. This will also allow them to receive new features first and further support the app.
Non-subscribers will still have access to all existing features. They will also be able to view media, files and stickers sent by Premium users, as well as interact with Premium reactions.
Durov mentioned that while many users had been asking to raise the app’s current limits, it would not be able to handle the cost of limitless access for all users.
“The only way to let our most demanding fans get more while keeping our existing features free is to make those raised limits a paid option,” explained Pavel.
He also believes that in order for the app to continue prioritising its users, Telegram should be primarily funded by its users rather than advertisers.
