Team sports up to 30 fully vaccinated persons to resume on Mar 15 at selected venues
The streamlining of the current SMMs will see an increase in the permitted number of participants for team sports.
The Multi-Ministry Taskforce (MTF) announced last Friday that the revision of Safe Management Measures (SMMs) to five core parameters – group sizes, mask-wearing, workplace requirements, safe distancing as well as capacity limits will begin on Tuesday (Mar 15).
The simplification of SMMs means that team sports for up to 30 fully vaccinated persons have now been given the green light to proceed at selected supervised locations such as ActiveSG, People’s Association (PA) facilities and SportSG approved private facilities from Mar 15 onwards.
These venues will be progressively expanded in the coming weeks at the discretion of The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY).
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the measures for sports were relaxed as there was no clear evidence to suggest that transient contact during sports lead to infections.
“Conversely, two years of SMMs have taken its toll on the physical, emotional and mental well-being of our people, especially the young,” said the ministry.
The prevailing community SMMs will apply before and after the sport activity, and during rest breaks.
Additionally, there will be no further testing requirements imposed, granted all participants are fully vaccinated. However, participants are still encouraged to self-test at home before heading over to the facilities and to stay home if they test positive or develop symptoms.
Participants will also be required to complete a health declaration form before partaking in the sports activity, said MOH.
