Team Singapore men’s floorball team secured their fourth consecutive qualification for the International Floorball Federation (IFF) Men’s World Floorball Championship (WFC) last Friday (Jun 3).
This came after a 6-3 victory over South Korea at the World Floorball Championship Qualification-Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation Cup (WFCQ-AOFC) quarter finals, held at the OCBC Arena.
The men’s team ended their WFCQ-AOFC campaign with a third place finish out of eight, after a 4-3 win over Australia in the third place match which took place a day after the quarter finals.
In the group stage of the competition, the Singapore men’s team managed to secure two wins and suffered just one loss.
The only loss came against cup winners Thailand on the third day of the competition, where Singapore suffered a 9-2 defeat.
The Singapore men’s team won both of their games prior to their defeat to Thailand, with an 8-2 win over Malaysia on the first day and a 4-0 victory over New Zealand on the second.
Apart from Singapore, Australia (fourth place), the Philippines (second place) and Thailand (first place) have also earned their spots at the IFF Men’s WFC.
The IFF Men’s WFC will take place in Zurich, Switzerland, in November this year.
Prior to the Men’s WFCQ-AOFC, the OCBC Arena also hosted the women’s edition of the AOFC cup from May 23 to 28, where the Singapore women’s floorball team won their second consecutive cup title.
