Singapore Premier League club Tampines Rovers have partnered youth football academy JSSL to enter a team into the Women’s Premier League next season.

Trials for the team, called JSSL TRFC, will be held at Our Tampines Hub in August. The team will also compete in the Women’s National League in September this year.

The formation of the women’s team is a result of the partnership between both entities, which has been extended on Friday (Jun 27) till 2025 and include the new women’s programme.

As part of the women’s programme,  up to 30 scholarships will be offered to young local female footballers in JSSL FC across six age groups: under-six, under-eight, under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16. JSSL FC’s existing girls programme consists of more than 150 girls aged four to 17.

Five girls in each of the six age groups will be awarded a full scholarship to JSSL FC, worth around $4,000 per scholar yearly. The scholarship will cover the costs of all mid-week and weekend trainings, all league games as well as league and training kits, along with a yearly review.

Trials for the under-six to the under-16 age group teams will also be held at Our Tampines Hub in early August.

The partnership between JSSL FC and TRFC was established back in 2018 to set up a pathway for talented young footballers to transition to playing professionally.

It has since seen a pipeline of young players progressing through the JSSL FC Academy programme to TRFC’s Centres of Excellence (COE) and eventually into the first team.

Some of the notable names that had been through the system include Joel Chew and Ethan Pinto, who have been named in the TRFC’s squad list for the 2022 Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.
