If you haven’t heard already, our brain releases a hormone called dopamine that makes us feel happy whenever we eat sugar.

This probably explains why Singaporeans love a sweet treat.

You can’t go cafe hopping during the circuit breaker period for your sugar high, but fret not. There are still ways you can satisfy your cravings – by getting it delivered to your doorstep!

Here’s a list of 10 desserts you can get without leaving the comfort of your own home – especially if you need a pick-me-up after long hours of studying or working!

1. Zee & Elle Cakes

2. Twelve Cupcakes

Most famous for their cupcakes (duh!), Twelve Cupcakes always has something to offer every customer. If you are looking for something sweet and fruity, try the Rainbow Vanilla or Raspberry Lychee Rose that is baked with real fruit bits. If you prefer your desserts on the sweet and savoury side, Nutella and Sea Salt Caramel will suit your taste better.

3. Doughnut Shack

Doughnut Shack allows their customers to select a variety of yummy gourmet doughnuts and bombolinis (Italian jelly doughnuts filled with custard or cream) in boxes of six or 20 for assorted selections, and 15 or 25 for mini-assorted selections. Popular flavours like Crème Brulee, Pistachio Ganache, Matcha Glazed and Salted Caramel are definitely a must-have in your box!

4. Gin Thye

Gin Thye is one of the go-to places for your traditional Chinese pastries fix. Its extensive kuehs, pastries and cakes collection caters to the different dialect groups, such as Teochew, Cantonese, Hokkien and Hainanese. It offers traditional peanut cookies and local favourites like pong piah and Wu Xiang Gao, which is made with five-spiced powder and white sesame. Furthermore, Gin Thye has also added mochi into their collection. Choose between premium flavours like the Durian, Lychee or Soursop and savour the mochi as it melts in your mouth.

Antoinette has made its mark in our hearts with its wonderful selection of epicurean cakes, macarons and bonbons. One of our favourites among them is Kyoto. Roasted withpremium tea powder, the Kyoto cake features layers of houjicha mousse inbetween black sugar finger sponge cakes filled with black sugar creme Chantilly and orange confit.

Our close second, the Superlova, serves up an interesting combination of rose petal mousse, marshmallow and caviar.

6. L.E. Café

Try out L.E. Cafe’s delicious and silky-smooth bean curd tarts that will leave you wanting for more! Other than selling the bean curd tarts in their original flavour, L.E. Cafe has come out with different toppings to go with them. You will be spoilt for choice when choosing between Durian, Longan, Red Bean, Gingko Nut or White Fungus.

You won’t be blamed if you stock up more of their famous “Golf Ball” Pineapple Tarts that are baked with soft pineapple paste and savoury butter pastry.

7. Awfully Chocolate

As they say, you can never go wrong with chocolate. Awfully Chocolate’s Signature Cake series will send you straight to cocoa heaven. Who can resist the temptation of the Dark Chocolate Ganache Black Rice Cake, Crème Brulee, and let’s not forget, the all-time best-seller Poached Pear Cake?

The Poached Pear Cake is loaded with juicy poached pears placed in between layers of dark chocolate, vanilla and butterscotch cinnamon cream. The cake is adorned with streusel crumble and forget-me-not flowers on the top.

Well-known for their bean curd and grass jelly-based signatures, Nine Fresh’s dessert comes in an assortment of ingredients ranging from red beans, taro balls, konjac jelly and pearl jelly that will make your stomach very happy.

If you are up for a hearty adventure, take up one of the three base specials like Aww in One Cup that uses either bean curd, grass jelly or ai-yu jelly as its base, and black pearls, milk balls, mini taro Q and taro balls as its toppings.
