Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon returns at full-scale, expecting up to 50,000 runners
The event will span over two days in December.
Up to 50,000 participants are expected to race in the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) this December, as the event returns to its full-scale.
For the first time since 2019, the marathon will see a mass start at the beginning of the race as well as full and half marathons to cater to more runners.
The event will span over two days in December, kicking off with the 5km and 10km runs on Dec 3 while the Marathon 42.195km and Half Marathon 21.1km categories will flag off on Dec 4.
The previous two editions of the event were adapted and scaled back to fit COVID-19 regulations. The 2020 edition was held virtually in a hybrid race format, while the 2021 edition saw the event returning in-person, with a cap on the number of participants.
Jeff Edwards, managing director of Asia for the Ironman Group said it has been closely monitoring the pandemic situation in Singapore since last year’s event. It also worked closely with stakeholders such as Sport Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board and the Standard Chartered Bank to determine the format of this year’s event.
He said: “We have full confidence that this year’s event will mark the safe return of mass participation events as we come back bigger and better than before, with more in-person race categories and a mass start.”
To commemorate the event’s return to its original format, a new logo was unveiled by the SCSM’s organisers. The logo is fronted by the Merlion, to signify the “event’s positioning as a city race” and the orchid to symbolise “hardiness and resilience”.
Participants will also have an option to sign up for the race’s Double Up Challenge, where they can participate in two races. They can choose to register for either the 5km or 10km category, combined with a Half Marathon 21.1km or Marathon 42.195km.
Upon completion, they will receive their respective event finisher medals and an exclusive Double Up Challenge medal.
Registration for the marathon begins on Jun 24 at 10am. Standard Chartered cardholders can enjoy a 15 per cent discount.
