Spotify enters the metaverse with new virtual island on Roblox
Spotify is the first music streaming platform to enter the metaverse on Roblox.
Spotify has made its foray into the metaverse via interactive universe Roblox, announced the music streaming company on Tuesday (May 3).
Titled Spotify Island, the virtual space allows fans to interact with one another, explore new sounds, organise digital hangouts and gain access to exclusive virtual merchandise.
The island contains shapes, colours and icons which players can collect to exchange for merchandise. Moreover, musical Easter eggs are hidden throughout the island which users can discover to help them climb to the top of the charts.
Users can also collaborate with one another to create their own music and sounds remotely via beat-maker stations powered by Soundtrap, a recording platform which Spotify acquired in 2017.
Through Spotify Island, users will be able to venture out to themed islands which will be introduced throughout the year. The islands will contain exclusive content, artist interactions as well as mini-quests.
K-Park will be the first themed experience on the islands, giving fans the opportunity to interact with K-pop artists Stray Kids and SUNMI.
Additionally, Spotify will partner with artists to create in-game merchandise where a portion of the sales will be given to the artists.
According to Spotify, the island brings “new, unique experiences to fans and artists alike”.
Those who wish to partake in the experience can do so via Roblox’s website.
