Singapore’s Raffles Hotel and Capella make the 2023 World’s 50 Best Hotels list
Raffles Hotel came in 17th, while Capella was ranked 28th.
Two Singapore hotels, namely Raffles Hotel and Capella Singapore, have made the World’s 50 Best Hotels list. The list was revealed at a London awards ceremony on Wednesday (Sep 20).
The renowned Raffles Hotel was ranked 17th, while Capella, a luxury resort situated on Sentosa Island, came in 28th.
Topping the list is Italy’s Lake Como hotel, Passalacqua. Rosewood Hong Kong came in second while Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River ranked third.
The World’s 50 Best Hotels is an inaugural ranking of the best hotels worldwide through votes by a panel of 580 global industry experts from nine voting regions.
The ranking is owned and organised by William Reed, which also compiles The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and The World’s 50 Best Bars.
The voters range from hoteliers to travel journalists, seasoned luxury travellers and hospitality professionals, and are a part of The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy.
Each voter had seven votes. At the point of voting, they were required to list the seven best hotels they had stayed at in the past two years, in order of preference.
Any hotel in the world is eligible, as long as they are open during the voting period and are not closing permanently within three months of the list being announced.

Raffles Hotel, now 136 years old, was designated as a national monument in 1987. It boasts 115 suites, a wide range of dining options and tropical gardens for guests to enjoy.
“It makes all of us immensely proud that our world-renowned service delivering always-relevant and ever-evolving experiences has transcended Singapore’s shores and is being recognised by the Academy,” said Managing Director of Raffles Singapore, Christian Westbeld, through a post on the hotel’s Facebook page.
“We are also honoured to not only be flying the Raffles brand flag high but also proudly representing Singapore on a global stage,” he added.
Capella Singapore is situated on 30 acres of land on Sentosa Island, surrounded by lush, landscaped gardens. Opened in 2009, it has been awarded the No.1 hotel in Singapore and No.2 Best City Hotel in Asia.
“This affirmation from well-travelled experts within the hotel and travel industry is testament to the memorable stay experiences and exceptional service that we continuously strive to provide to all our guests,” said the hotel on its Facebook page.
