Singapore’s first arts university to open in 2024
Applications for the first August 2024 intake will open in the third quarter of 2023.
Singapore’s first government-supported private arts university, the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), will welcome its first intake in 2024, announced the Ministry of Education in a press release on Tuesday (30 Aug).
Application window for the first 2024 intake and the full slate of academic offerings at UAS will be announced next year.
UAS’ development had been the main focus of the alliance formed between LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in March of last year.
Following the creation of UAS, LASALLE and NAFA will still remain as separate institutions and continue to offer their respective programmes.
Led by its own central entity, UAS Limited (UAS Ltd.), the university will offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programme offerings from both institutions in fine arts, design, media arts, performing arts, arts management and the applied arts.
The courses will be offered by LASALLE and NAFA while the degrees will be provided for by UAS.
The UAS student experience will build on the LASALLE and NAFA experience through a common UAS orientation, cross–college modules and joint electives.
Future students will have access to shared services and resources such as general library resources, enhanced student services such as counselling, education and career guidance and large scale industry events and career fairs.
According to the ministry, faculty and staff will also have the opportunity to progress their educational professions in multiple areas, such as academic, research and teaching collaborations and sharing of resources.
