Singapore’s first wrestler in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Sean Tan, made a winning debut on WWE NXT on Tuesday (Wednesday morning, Sep 22, Singapore time).

NXT is the third brand in the WWE stable after Raw and Smackdown, and is aimed at developing rising stars before they move on to the bigger stages.

The 25-year-old Sean, wrestling under the moniker Dante Chen, defeated Trey Baxter in just under a minute by pinfall after an inside cradle move.

Sean entered the ring in a red and gold boxing ring jacket, cladded with a gold bandana face mask. The colours matched his wrestling outfit, which consisted of red and gold spandex boxers and knee guards of the same colour.

NXT commentators including former WWE stars Wade Barrett and three-time WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix, were thrilled by his debut. Barrett was even seemingly astounded by his rapid victory, saying he’s “never seen that before”.

It was announced in July that the 25-year-old was among a group of new recruits from Asia that reported for training at the WWE Performance Centre in Florida and had his trial in Shanghai before.

Sean had previously wrestled under the name of Trexxus for Singapore Pro Wrestling and was its Southeast Asia Champion.
