Singapore women’s national football team provisional squad for 31st SEA Games announced

Twenty-five players from the squad will participate in the Thailand training camp ahead of the biennial Games.

Twenty-seven players have been called up to the Singapore women’s national football team provisional squad by head coach Stephen Ng for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. 

The tournament, which will be held in Vietnam, will run from May 12 to May 23. The Lionesses are in Group B, alongside Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. 

Among the 27 players, 11 hail from the Lion City Sailors. 

Balestier Khalsa is the next most represented team in the squad with four players, followed by Still Aerion with three and Tiong Bahru with two. 

Albirex Niigata (S), Bussorah Youth Sports Club, Kibi International University, Eastern Florida State (USA), Mill Hill School (ENG), Hougang United, and University of Edinburgh (SCT) are the other teams represented in the squad, with one player each. 

There are also two players based overseas, Siti Rosnani Azman and Nicole Lim, included. The pair was part of the team that played in the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Tri-Nations Series 2022 (Women’s). 

Singapore won 6-2 against Seychelles and suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Papua New Guinea in the friendly tournament.

In preparation for the SEA Games, 25 of the 27 Lionesses will embark on an eight-day overseas training camp in Chonburi, Thailand from Apr 20.

Three friendly matches with Thai clubs have been lined up for coach Stephen to further fine-tune the squad’s preparation for the biennial competition, said the FAS.

London-based forward Danelle Tan and Defender Rosnani will link up with the final squad directly in Vietnam after completing their school and club commitments.

The squad will be trimmed down to 20 players after the training camp, FAS added.
