Singapore women’s football squad for AFF Women’s Championship announced, 4 overseas-based players called up

Twenty-seven players have been called up by head coach Stephen Ng to the Singapore women’s national football team for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship.

The tournament will be held in Manila, Philippines, from Jul 4 to Jul 17. The Lionesses have been handed a tough draw in Group A alongside Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup representatives Philippines, Thailand and Australia.

Among the 27 players, 10 represent Lion City Sailors at club level, with four from Still Aerion Women’s, two from Balestier Khalsa, Albirex Niigata and Tanjong Pagar United.

The rest are from Hougang United, Bussorah Youth Sports Club and Ayer Rajah Gryphons. 

Four overseas-based players have also been called up. They are Putri Syaliza (Chonburi Women’s Football Club, Thailand), Summer Chong (Black Rock FC, USA), Danelle Tan (Mill Hill School, England) and Nicole Lim (University of Edinburgh, Scotland). 

Defender Siti Rosnani Azman will miss out due to league commitments with Japanese club Kibi International University Charme. The team will be captained by defender Erine Sulastri, who is one appearance away from a milestone of 50 Singapore caps. 

In preparation for the tournament, the Lionesses played two friendlies against Hong Kong on Jun 23 and Jun 26, losing both games 0-4 and 0-1.
