Singapore women’s bowling team finishes top 3 in Brunswick Euro Challenge
Five Singaporean female bowlers made it to the top 10 rankings in the female division of the competition.
Team Singapore keglers Cherie Tan, New Hui Fen and Charmaine Chang finished in the top three standings in the female division of the Brunswick Euro Challenge which took place in Munich, Germany, from Jun 25 to Jul 3.
Cherie finished in the top spot out of 45 competitors with a total of 1,488 pinfalls, while Hui Fen and Charmaine came in second and third place with a total of 1,436 and 1,402 pinfalls respectively.
Two other female Singaporean keglers – Shayna Ng and Daphne Tan – also finished among the top 10. Shayna managed to come in fifth place with a total of 1,398 pinfalls, while Daphne came in ninth place with 1,379 pinfalls.
Bernice Lim narrowly missed out on the top 10 placing and finished 11th with a total of 1363 pinfalls, while Jazreel Tan came in 16th with a total of 1,352 pinfalls.
In the overall standings inclusive of men, Cherie ranked fifth out 215 competitors. She was the only Singaporean to make it to the Final Step 3 round, which featured only the top eight male and female competitors.
Timothy Tham, Hui Fen and Charmaine managed to make it to the Final Step 2 round, where they finished in ninth, 14th and 23rd place respectively.
Four Singaporean keglers – Jaris Goh (ranked 40th), Daphne (ranked 47th), Shayna (ranked 59th) and Bernice (ranked 60th) – ended their campaign in the Final Step 1 round.
Jazreel, Darren Ong, Cheah Ray Han, Basil Ng and Joel Tan were unable to make it past the qualifying games.
Cherie and Hui Fen will next feature at the upcoming World Games in the United States, which commences on Jul 7.
