Singapore will host two international floorball tournaments at the OCBC Arena in May and June this year, the Singapore Floorball Association announced.

The tournaments – the Women’s Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation Cup (AOFC) and the Men’s World Floorball Championship Qualifiers AOFC (WFCQ) – will be open for fans to attend.

The Women’s AOFC, which runs from May 23 to May 28, will feature six teams: defending Champions Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and a Singapore under-19 side.

It will be the second edition of the tournament to be held. The first, hosted by Singapore in 2018, saw the local team defeat Thailand 4-1 in the final.

Singapore women’s floorball captain Michelle Lok, who was also part of the 2018 Women’s AOFC Cup team, shared that the team is looking forward to competing in Singapore again.

“Winning the Women’s AOFC Cup in front of a home crowd in 2018 was definitely a memorable and honourable experience. The team is training hard to put up a good fight to retain the title and do Singapore proud,” she said.

The men’s WFCQ-AOFC tournament, which takes place from May 31 to Jun 4, will feature eight teams: Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, New Zealand, Philippines, Japan, Malaysia and Australia. The tournament will see the teams compete to secure a place in the upcoming Men’s Floorball World Championship that will be held in Switzerland.

R Suria, the Singapore men’s floorball captain, said the team have been “working hard to improve all areas” of their game and are hoping to put on a show for the fans.

“We’re excited to play in front of our family, friends and supporters… Floorball is a sport we love and enjoy playing, so we hope the fans who come also enjoy the matches and get to learn a little more about the sport,” he stated.

The two tournaments will also kickstart the inaugural Singapore Floorball Series, organised by sports agency Kin Productions and hosted by Singapore Floorball Association. The SFA hopes the series will bring “top floorball action to the community”.

Kin Productions will also organise next year’s Women’s World Floorball Championship. Further details of the championship will be shared at a later date.
