Singapore shuttler Loh Kean Yew eliminated in opening round of All England Open

Singapore shuttler Loh Kean Yew’s debut at the All England Open culminated in a loss in the opening round on Wednesday (Mar 16).
Kean Yew, ranked ninth in the world, lost to Denmark’s world number three Anders Antonsen in a match that lasted 74 minutes at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.
The Dane won by a score of 21-15, 18-21, 21-13.
Anders, who was making his sixth consecutive All England Open participation, had lost to Kean Yew in their previous meeting at the semi-finals of the World Championships last December. Kean Yew famously went on to become world champion.
The head-to-head career matchups between Kean Yew and Anders now stand at one apiece.
Kean Yew will next compete at the Yonex Swiss Open, a Super 300 event, from Mar 22. He is due to face Dutch world number 25, Mark Caljouw, in the first round.
