Singapore Airlines (SIA) was named the World’s Best Airline at the 2023 World Airline Awards, marking the fifth time it has received the title.

Customers of over 100 nationalities participated in an online survey operated by Skytrax from September 2022 to May 2023.

The test included questions about cabin service, onboard products and airports. Some factors of consideration were staff attitudes, service consistency, airline website, online bookings, cleanliness and quality of flight seats and meals.

Qatar Airways came in second place, followed by ANA All Nippon Airways, Emirates and Japan Airlines.

SIA received their title at a gala ceremony held in the Air and Space Museum at the Paris Air Show on Jun 20. The World Airline Awards began in 1999 and is widely regarded as the “Oscars of the aviation industry”.

“This award is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our people, who worked tirelessly and made many sacrifices to ensure that SIA was ready for the recovery in air travel,” said Mr Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer of Singapore Airlines.

“That has allowed us to emerge stronger and fitter from the pandemic as a leading international airline,” he added.

SIA was also awarded the Best Airline in Asia, Best First Class Comfort Amenities, World’s Best First Class, World’s Best First Class Seat, Best Business Class in Asia, Best Business Class Lounge in Asia and Best Premium Economy Seat in Asia.

Its budget carrier arm, Scoot, also received an award for the Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline.

Other awards, including the World’s Cleanest Airline and Best Cabin Crew went to ANA All Nippon Airways and Garuda Indonesia respectively.

SIA had received the second place title for the World’s Best Airline and nine other awards last year. They were awarded the same titles as this year, except for Best First Class Comfort Amenities and Best Premium Economy Seat in Asia.
