*SCAPE will start its renovation at the end of February, with works expected to last for a year.

The renovation will be done in three phases, across different areas and levels. The mall is expected to reopen fully in the first half of 2024.

However, the building will still remain in operation.

Areas affected by the construction will be hoarded off, but access will still be provided to the various venue spaces that are still open. These venues include the Playspace, The Ground Theatre, The TreeTop and the Gallery.  Subway, Al Capone’s Ristorante & Bar, and CHAT – which offers free mental health assessments to youths aged 16 to 30 – will remain in operation.

SCAPE programmes, such as the *SCAPE Career Studio 2.0, and events, such as the Summer Salt and Soasin Live in Singapore concerts, will still carry on.

However, community dance spaces at Level 4 and 5 of the mall will not be available during the renovation period.

The refresh plans were first announced in July 2022. *SCAPE said in its announcement then that the existing development will be rejuvenated into “an exciting space for youth development that appeals to all ages”.

It will also take “a refreshed approach to programming and partnerships, in response to evolving youth trends, while serving as a hub where youth can pilot new ideas, express their creativity and explore their interests in the creative, digital and technology, and sustainability sectors”.

The McDonald’s outlet at *SCAPE, which has been in operation since May 2010, will be permanently closed from Feb 22.

A farewell party for the outlet will be thrown by the fast-food chain and the mall on its last day of operation, from 7pm to 9pm.

Musician Aniq Rusyaidi will busk at the party, emceed by *SCAPE’s Fresh Off The Pod podcasters Ebeth and Shane.

The first 50 people to register for the party will get a Double Filet-O-Fish burger and drink for free. A claw machine will be set up for party-goers to win McDonald’s merchandise, while there will be a photobooth for youths to capture their memories of the outlet.

A social media contest – with McDonald’s vouchers worth $10 each and *SCAPE merchandises up for grabs – will also be held.

When *SCAPE reopens fully, it will feature a revitalised entraceway and a new shared dance space, in addition to a refreshed line-up of retail, entertainment and leisure experiences, said the mall.
