Samsung to release new Galaxy S23 series on Feb 17; pre-orders now open

The Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra are priced at $1,188, $1,528 and $1,828 respectively.

Pre-orders for the new Samsung Galaxy S23 series opened on Thursday (Feb 2).The range will be released officially in stores on Feb 17.

Customers can pre-order the Galaxy S23 Ultra at $1,828, the Galaxy S23 at $1,188 and Galaxy S23+ at $1,528.

The Galaxy S23 series comes in four nature-inspired colours, namely Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender. Another four colours, available exclusively online, are Graphite, Sky Blue, Lime and Red.

While the Galaxy S23 Ultra features a 6.8-inch display, the base model has a 6.1-inch screen and the Galaxy S23+ display is 6.6 inch.

In terms of storage, customers can choose to get either 128GB or 256GB for the Galaxy S23; 256GB or 512 GB for the Galaxy S23+; and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Camera Specs

For camera specifications, both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ have four cameras which include the 12MP (megapixel) ultra-wide camera, 50MP wide camera, 10MP telephoto camera and 12MP front camera.

As for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it is equipped with a 12MP ultra-wide camera, 12MP front camera, two 10MP telephoto cameras and 200MP wide camera.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is also the first of the Samsung Galaxy series to feature the 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor, which uses pixel binning to support multiple levels of high-resolution processing at once.

Compared to Galaxy S22, users can get sharper images and videos when they use the improved Nightography functions of the Galaxy S23, added Samsung. A new AI-powered image signal processing algorithm (ISP) is also installed within the phone which helps to correct visual noise that usually ends up ruining low-light images.

To improve the quality of selfies, the Galaxy S23 series has also incorporated fast autofocus to its first ever Super HDR selfie camera which jumps from 30fps to 60fps.

Another exclusive feature of the Galaxy S23 is its Expert RAW app, which enables DSLR-style image shooting and editing in RAW and JPEG formats so no bulky camera equipment is required.

Gaming and Work Specs

Creators and gamers can also enjoy optimised experiences with the brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, which is the world’s fastest Snapdragon platform according to Samsung.

The unique Enhanced comfort feature also allows users to to adjust colour tones and contrast levels, which helps to lessen their eye strain from screen time at night.

Another significant improvement made to the Galaxy S23 series is the optimisation of its GPU, which is now about 41 per cent faster than Galaxy S22, said Samsung.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra also supports real-life ray tracing, which means it is able to provide more lifelike rendering of scenes due to the technology tracking and simulating every ray of light.

Additionally, the Galaxy S23 series can be connected to another device through Samsung Multi Control, with the enhanced text usability making it easier to copy and paste text from one device to another.

According to Samsung, video calls have also been made more collaborative on Galaxy S23 Ultra, with participants now being able to simultaneously co-edit a document from each of their Android devices rather than just viewing a shared screen.

Materials used

Unlike previous Galaxy smartphones, the Galaxy S23 is created with a wider variety of recycled materials such as recycled aluminium, glass and plastic.

For instance, the Galaxy S23 is the first series to feature Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which consists of an average of 22 per cent of pre-consumer recycled content and offers durability for long-term use.

Those interested in getting their own Samsung Galaxy S23 phone can pre-order at the Samsung online and experience stores, from local telecommunication operators M1, Singtel and Starhub, shopping platforms like Lazada and Shopee or selected Consumer Electronics and IT stores like Challenger and Harvey Norman.

Customers who pre-ordered their Galaxy S23 phones can enjoy early delivery and collect their devices from Feb 10. 

Those who opted to pre-order by walking in can collect their devices at the same outlets where they made the order. For customers who pre-ordered online, they can choose to collect their phones in person at a Samsung Experience store or have the devices delivered.
