Fans of Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Wes Anderson can catch an early preview of his latest film Asteroid City at the Singapore International Film Festival’s (SGIFF) fundraiser on Aug 5.

Along with carnival snacks, festival drinks and an Asteroid City-themed photo booth, the event will be held at VivoCity’s Golden Village outlet.

Additionally, SGIFF will host a best-dressed contest and pop quiz, with $400 worth of official movie merchandise to be won.

Set in 1955, Asteroid City centres on a disruption at a Junior Stargazer cum Space Convention in an American desert town. The film’s lineup of cast members features award-winning actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks and Bryan Cranston.

Other notable works in the American director’s filmography include The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom and The French Dispatch.

The reception begins at 6pm and the event will officially commence at 7pm.

There are limited seats for the event. To secure a seat, interested visitors must make a donation of $35 via SGIFF’s website. All donations are non-refundable, and seats will be assigned at the door of the event.

Donors who are contributing a donation of $50 and above are eligible for a 250 per cent tax deduction and will receive it by providing their NRICs in the form. All information will be kept confidential and in compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Asteroid City will commence public screenings in cinemas on Aug 17.
