Over 360 works to display at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts graduation exhibition held May 20-Jun 25
The fine art, fashion and design show will focus on the theme ‘Venture Boldly’.
Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts’ (NAFA) annual exhibition for the graduating batch will take place from May 20 to Jun 25.
Titled The Grad Expectations 2023, the exhibition will feature over 360 works by degree students from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Fine Art and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Design Practice.
Works of diploma students from the School of Fine Art, 3D Design, Design & Media, and Fashion Studies will also be showcased.
The Grad Expectations will showcase three shows – fine art, fashion and design – focusing on the theme of Venture Boldly.
One of the showcases from the exhibition is fine art diploma graduand Lay Yen Ting’s Of Flesh and Blood, a work that uses prints and new media to explain narratives that explore power dynamics between different communities in Singapore.
This includes the rich versus the poor, male versus female, and man versus state.

Another focal point of the exhibition is a piece that utilises Augmented Reality (AR) to address the environmental challenges in today’s society.
Reinard Nicodemus Risman, who is a Diploma student under the Illustration with Animation course, covered the theme of sustainability in his conceptualised mural, titled Metamorphosis.

“The Grad Expectations gives our students the pedestal and freedom to be ambitious with their ideas, to start collaborations and build that creative momentum as they continue in their creative paths,” said Ms Sabrina Long, dean of the Faculty of Art and Design (FOAD) at NAFA.
The fine art show will be held from May 20 to 27, at Ngee Ann Kongsi Galleries 1 & 2 and the Lim Hak Tai Gallery located in the NAFA campus.
The design show will run from Jun 9 to 25 at the same locations. Both the fine art and design shows will be open to the public, while the fashion show is by invitation only.
