Over 100,000 individuals and teams will receive state awards for their contributions to Singapore’s fight against COVID-19, announced the Public Service Division in a media release on Thursday (Dec 29).

A total of about 9,500 individuals will receive the National Awards (COVID-19) for outstanding contributions during the pandemic.

Of the recipients, about 4,000 individuals are from the public healthcare sector, 4,500 are from the public sector, and about 900 are from the private and people sectors.

Recipients of the awards include those who provided medical care, surveillance and testing, organised vaccination drives, oversaw safe distancing, ran dormitory operations and ensured economic, supply chain and social resilience.

There are seven awards under the National Awards (COVID-19) category, including the  President’s Certificate of Commendation (COVID-19) and the Meritorious Service Medal (COVID-19).

The apex award, the Meritorious Service Medal (COVID-19), will only be awarded to three recipients.

They are Associate Professor Kenneth Mak Seck Wai, Director of medical services at the Ministry of Health, Mr Pang Kin Keong, Chairman of Homefront Crisis Executive Group (HCEG) and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Mr Tan Chong Men, Lead for Community Care Facilities Taskforce, Temasek, and Group CEO of PSA International.

Over 480 teams will receive the President’s Certificate of Commendation. The recipients showed extensive teamwork during the fight against COVID-19, and the award celebrates the team spirit they demonstrated.

Other awards under the National Awards (COVID-19) category include The Public Service Star (COVID-19), The Public Administration Medal (COVID-19), The Medal of Valour (COVID-19), The Commendation Medal (COVID-19), and The Public Service Medal (COVID-19).

Besides the National Awards (COVID-19), two new national awards, the COVID-19 Resilience Medal (CRM) and COVID-19 Resilience Certificate (CRC), will also be awarded to those who directly participated in the fight against COVID-19. About 99,000 individuals and 800 teams will receive the CRM and CRC.

In a post on his Instagram page, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong recognised the different groups that contributed to Singapore’s fight against COVID-19, and congratulated the recipients of these awards, saying: “Thank you for the hard work and sacrifices!”
