French fine-dining restaurant Odette is Singapore’s sole entry in this year’s list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, which was revealed at an awards ceremony in London on Monday (Jul 18).

Odette — known for its fusion of French cuisine with Asian influences — came in at number 36, dropping from last year’s edition where it ranked eighth.

The establishment recently managed to maintain its three Michelin stars under the Michelin Guide Singapore 2022, an accolade it has held on to since 2019.

“We are honoured to be among the World’s 50 Best; being able to represent Singapore among such great and inspiring company is such a dream come true,” said Odette in an Instagram post.

Odette’s chef-owner Julien Royer, who attended the ceremony, added: “We are incredibly humbled to be here today, and it’s only possible because of the work of my amazing team.”

Barbecue restaurant Burnt Ends, which was Singapore’s other representative on the list in 2021 also fell to number 94 in the 51-100 section.

Two other Singapore restaurants — Zen and Meta — made it to the 51-100 section, landing at number 70 and 95 respectively.

The top spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list went to Geranium, a Danish gourmet restaurant led by Rasmus Kofoed who is the first chef in Denmark to earn three Michelin stars.

A total of seven restaurants in Asia made the list, including Tokyo’s Den at number 20, Hong Kong’s The Chairman at number 24 and Tokyo’s Florilege at number 30.

The new Asian entries comprise Bangkok’s Sorn at number 39, Osaka’s La Cime at number 41 and Tokyo’s Narisawa at number 45.
