NSmen to receive $100 in credits and one year of free Safra or HomeTeamNS membership in commemoration of NS55
The commemoration is in recognition of the contributions of more than one million national servicemen from the SAF and the Home Team, both past and present.
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Home Team (HT) are commemorating 55 years of National Service (NS) this year.
Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad announced the start of a year-long celebration for NS55 during his visit to a mobilisation exercise at Maju Camp.
The theme of NS55 is “Generations of Strengths”, which reflects the collective resolve and dedication of Singapore’s national servicemen who have contributed to Singapore’s security and defence, inspiring Singaporeans to continue building a stronger Singapore.
According to Mr Zaqy, past and present national servicemen will receive an NS55 Recognition Package including $100 worth of credits via the LifeSG mobile app.
They will also receive a free one-year SAFRA or HomeTeamNS membership.
Eligibility for the package will be determined according to the individual’s NS status as of May this year.
National servicemen who are eligible will receive a letter in June with further details on how to redeem the package and register for the complimentary membership.
Additionally, various events have been planned for the commemoration of NS55.
Some key events are the NS55 Showcase in conjunction with the Army Open House in May and a Roving Heartlands Exhibition in June.
Additionally, other commemorative events that will occur throughout the year include an interactive trail, titled “Cepat Jalan” which will make use of augmented or virtual reality at seven discovery points to engage members of the public.
There will also be various outreach programmes as well as online engagement on the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), SAF and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Home Team’s social media accounts.
The campaign will then conclude in December with a combined Basic Military Training Graduation parade and MINDEF Reserve Parade at Marina Bay.
Speaking to the media during his visit to Maju Camp, Mr Zaqy emphasised the criticality of NS in safeguarding Singapore’s sovereignty.
“We have stood up NS for 55 years, where more than a million Singaporeans have served, and we want to recognise them for their contributions.
“This year, with the NS55 campaign, we want to recognise and really thank our NSmen. We are also thankful for the support of their families, employers and the community because the sacrifices made are not just theirs alone,” added Mr Zaqy.
