Nike brings back its first-ever football boots “The Nike 1971” on 50th anniversary
Only 1971 pairs of the classic black-and-white boots will be released.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of its first pair of football boots, Nike has announced the special release of the “The Nike 1971” cleats.
As the first pair of football boots to bear the famous swoosh logo, the football boots made its debut in 1971 without any weather-combating properties. It was eventually discontinued in favour of the brand focusing on running, tennis, and basketball footwear.
“The Nike 1971” will feature a full-leather base predominantly in black with contrasting white leather swooshes on the sidewalls. Colourful graphics referencing the 1970 Fifa World Cup in Mexico are featured on the insoles and the tongue while the underfoot consist of a classic white soleplate with 13 conical studs – the standard for all football cleats during the 1970s.
The boots will retail at $279 and will only be limited to 1971 pairs worldwide. While it has sold out on the Nike website, you can still pick up a pair at Soccer.com.
