Residents of Tanjong Pagar can now use a new green community space for play, relaxation and community events.

Discover Tanjong Pagar (DTP) launched a new eco-playground at the DTP Community Green on Mar 26.

Located in the space between Sofitel Singapore City Centre at Guoco Tower and Orchid Hotel, the playground is a partnership between DTP and furniture company Roger&Sons, with the goal to encourage pretend play and spark creation & discovery amongst children.

The playground’s equipment is made of upcycled local wood, such as tree logs salvaged from deforestation and excess logs from sawmills in Singapore.

The wooden structures are placed randomly around the 1,650 sq m green space, which allows children to run around freely while exploring the play equipment. The space is also pet-friendly with plenty of green grass.

Children can exercise their motor skills and imagination with sensory elements such as stacked wooden logs and a xylophone made from PVC pipes.

There are also creative features for all ages, including a set of wooden wire frames where artwork can be displayed, and a hexagonal bench for relaxation.

The playground was co-created with the local community, with inputs from pre-school children who were asked to sketch their dream playground. Local interviews and community voting were also conducted to find out what residents wanted in their new community space.

“If you are living or working in the area, or even if you are just passing through, do take a moment to enjoy our newest community space,” said MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC Indranee Rajah, who helped with the official launch of the new playground, in a Facebook post
