A new standalone Transformers movie is being developed by Paramount Pictures.

Netflix’s The Defenders co-showrunner Marco Ramirez is slated to write the script while Angel Manuel Soto is set to direct the film.

While there are no plot details about the movie at this time, we do know that it will not be connected to Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise or the Bumblebee spin off by Travis Knight. The series by Michael Bay will still continue, with Steven Caple Jr. set to direct the upcoming movie.

The Transformers movies have collectively grossed US$4.84 billion (S$6.52 billion) at the box office, which includes the 1986 animated movie and the 2018 Bumblebee spin-off movie.

Aside from the movies, Netflix is also developing an animated Transformers: Botbots series on top of their existing anime series adaptation, Transformers: War for Cybertron.
