Jewel Changi Airport will launch a new dinosaur themed attraction on Mar 31 titled the Jewel-rassic Quest.

The new attraction will blend augmented reality (AR) with Jewel’s lush indoor environment, where participants will be transported 89 million years back to the Late Cretaceous period through a tablet known as the TimeLens.

Participants will embark on a 90-minute journey all around Jewel that will bring them to other key attractions such as the Shiseido Forest Valley and HSBC Rain Vortex. Using the TimeLens, participants will be able to watch dinosaurs roam freely around Jewel and learn about their habits and discover their hiding places and nests.

The new attraction is split into three different segments.

Quest for the AstroJewel

Participants will play as a character in the game and be an assistant to the game’s avatar lead, Ranger J99. In the game, the AstroJewel is a special crystal that can be used to solve global warming, and participants will aid Ranger J99 on her mission to retrieve it.

The quest will have six checkpoints which participants will have to find. The checkpoints will be in the form of a code that can be scanned using the TimeLens which will allow participants to see the action unfold and progress further through the quest.

At some checkpoints, participants will also get the chance to hop in on the action and help Ranger J99 on her mission, such as by helping her distract the dinosaurs.

After successfully completing the quest by scanning the six different checkpoints and helping Ranger J99 secure the AstroJewel, participants will then unlock three mini-games which they can play.

Mini-games

Just like the quest, participants will have to scan the mini-game’s code found at specific locations around Jewel to play the various games through the TimeLens.

One of the mini-games which participants can play is the fossil excavation game, where participants get to be an archaeologist for a day and brush off fossil bones to guess which dinosaur they belong to.

Another mini-game which participants can play is the feeding game, where participants will get to feed a Velociraptor with a wide variety of foods, including some local food such as Satay and You Tiao.

The third and perhaps biggest mini-game is the dinosaur meet-and-greet. Participants can venture all around Jewel to look for up to eight different dinosaurs, including the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brachiosaurus.

Participants can pose with the dinosaurs and snap pictures using the TimeLens to keep for themselves or to share with family and friends.

Dino Egg Hunt

On top of the quest and the mini-games, participants can also take part in the dinosaur egg hunt.

Participants can look for up to six dinosaur eggs as they move from one checkpoint to another during the quest or mini-games. All of the eggs contain hidden trivia and interesting facts about Jewel that will be unveiled when participants scan the egg’s code and collect it.

The eggs are scattered across six different locations in Jewel and can be collected at any time within the 90-minute game time. PHOTO CREDIT: JEWEL CHANGI AIRPORT
