The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) announced in a press release on Mar 22 that the redevelopment of The Float @ Marina Bay into the NS Square will be postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and its impact on the construction sector.

MINDEF stated that works for the NS Square will only commence in March 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by end-2026.

As redevelopment plans have been pushed back by a year, the NDP celebrations this year will still be held at The Float @ Marina Bay.

Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen stated in a Facebook post that Singaporeans can look forward to combined air, land and sea components for NDP 2022 and larger crowds for participants and spectators.

The plans for The Float @ Marina Bay to be redeveloped to the NS Square were introduced five years ago in 2017 and was awarded its design consultancy tender in 2020.

The NS Square is intended to showcase Singapore’s National Service story and recognise the contributions of national servicemen, and will feature an NS-themed gallery, community sports facilities and a new public waterfront promenade.

MINDEF will share more details on the project when it is ready.
