MUJI holds exhibition showcasing products over 40 years
The event is held at the Japanese Creative Centre.
MUJI is holding a free exhibition from Jun 15 to Jul 27 to celebrate the Japanese brand’s last four decades of products and history.
The exhibition, called To the Forest of Verbs with “MUJI IS”, is based on the book titled MUJI IS.
Issued in 2020 in celebration of MUJI’s 40th anniversary, the book is an archive of all MUJI’s products that were developed and created throughout the years. Each product was organised into 15 different verbs that represent the motivation behind creating the products in the first place.
In the exhibition, visitors will get to view MUJI’s archive based on the 15 verbs: Subtract, utilise, simplify, study, question, inherit, bundle, organise, support, notice, entrust, repeat, combine, imagine, and experiment.
To attract more interest in the exhibition, MUJI will also host a Zoom webinar titled MUJI IS, DESIGN IS, to share more details about the book and exhibition.
Creative director and MUJI advisory board member Kazuko Koike will share the brand’s thought process behind compiling and organising MUJI’s archive. The curator of the exhibition, Junko Suzuki, will also share the concept and the inspiration behind the exhibition.
The webinar will be held on Jun 16 from 5pm to 6pm and admission is free. Those who are interested in attending can register here.
To the Forest of Verbs with “MUJI IS” was first held at Atelier MUJI Ginza in Japan and has taken place in several locations in the country. This is the first time the exhibition is taking place outside of Japan.
The exhibition is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10am and 6pm at Japanese Creative Centre’s multi-purpose hall.
