Wildlife-inspired fashion and lifestyle items created by local brands have been launched as part of a collaboration between Mandai Wildlife Group and Singapore Fashion Council.

Also known as the Wildlife Sanctuary collection, the products will be available for purchase at a pop-up in Design Orchard until Dec 31. Proceeds from the items in the collection will also go towards wildlife conservation projects in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

According to the organisations, 70 per cent of the items from the Wildlife Sanctuary collection are made from sustainable materials.

Mandai Wildlife Group’s Vice President of Retail, Daisy Tan, shared how this collection highlights the beauty of wildlife in our world.

“Animals are wondrous in so many ways, and inspirationally, we and our partners have drawn so much from their unique patterns, shapes, colours and their very existence,” she said.

Singapore Fashion Council’s Design Orchard Retail Showcase General Manager, Julynn Tay, also mentioned that the partnership on the collection will help to contribute to a more “sustainable and vibrant design industry”.

As part of this collection, five local brands have contributed apparel, accessories and lifestyle goods. They were shortlisted from the 20 brands that submitted ideas to an open call in February.

The selected brands are La Tierra, junglesuit, Pearly Lustre, Reckless Ericka and Photo Phactory.

La Tierra

The brand released The White Tiger, a line of products that draws inspiration from biodiversity and a balanced ecosystem. La Tierra created six pieces using sustainable processes like block printing and natural dyeing.

A highlight from the collection is the hand block printing kit, which includes block stamps in the shape of a palm tree, hornbill and tiger. The kit also includes a tote bag that can be customised using the block stamps.

The block printing kit can be purchased for $85.

As for fashion items, La Tierra has also created apparel like dresses and unisex shirts, that are made by block printing animal designs onto sustainable materials.

junglesuit

According to junglesuit, the items designed by them are suitable for the warm weather. The brand’s products are also made sustainably from deadstock and fabrics like Tencel.

The raincoat is also available in two versions, the Full Pack and the Cropped Pack. The products are priced at $89 and $99 respectively.

Pearly Lustre

Through the jewellery items inspired by the endangered Malayan Tiger, Pearly Lustre aims to promote the conservation of the wildlife species.

As part of the Wildlife Sanctuary collection, the brand designed earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets. Recyclable and hypoallergenic materials were used to make all of the pieces.

Prices for the jewellery items by Pearly Lustre range from $290 to $900.

Reckless Ericka

Items by this local brand are designed with illustrations inspired by the different Mandai Wildlife Reserve parks. These include scarves, t-shirts and Cuban shirts created for the collection.

All of the products by Reckless Ericka are also ethically produced and have minimal impact on the environment.

Items from the collection are priced from $69 to $119.

Photo Phactory

As the only lifestyle brand in this collection, Photo Phactory has designed eco-conscious home goods like tableware and coaster sets. The products are made sustainably, to align with the brand’s “Buy Once Buy Well” philosophy.

A notable item is the Exotic Wood Round Tray, which is made from mango wood. The brand has also designed fashion items like clutch bags, shirts and scarves.

Items in the collection are priced from $38 onwards.

According to 20-year-old Shruti Balaji, who was involved in the design process at Photo Phactory, the collection aims to encourage youths to “reconsider their approach and have a look at slow fashion and sustainable materials”.

She also hopes the collection to bring more awareness about wildlife conservation.

“We tend to think of Singapore as this concrete jungle but it is actually a jungle,” she said.

All products in the collection are currently available for purchase at Design Orchard. Two more brands, Nyana Nyana and Phoonies, will also showcase their Wildlife Sanctuary inspired designs at the location.

From Nov 20 onwards, the collection will launch in retail stores at Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise. The new Wildlife Sanctuary Collection will also be available on Mandai Wildlife Group’s Lazada and Shopee e-shops on the same date.

Local residents can enjoy a 10 per cent discount for the collection at Design Orchard by signing up for the Mandai Wildpass.

For existing Wildpass holders, the discount will only be applicable at the retail stores in Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise.
