Malaysia’s Desaru Coast listed among 2021 World’s Greatest Places by TIME Magazine
The resort was described as a beach escape that’s home to many international hotels.
Desaru Coast has been named one of TIME Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places of 2021, a list comprising 100 of the magazine’s top destinations from around the world.
Located on the south-eastern coast of Johor, Desaru Coast is the only destination in Malaysia to make the list this year.
The resort is described as a beach escape featuring a list of globally renowned hotels and resorts, various attractions such as world-class golf courses and cruises sailing through the Sedili Wetlands.
The list also talks about the forthcoming opening of the Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal, which will offer increased transit options for Singapore – when leisure travel is allowed again.
The third annual edition of the list was compiled by TIME’s international network of correspondents with the help of industry experts. This year, the TIME honors the people and businesses at the forefront of those industries who found ways to adapt, build and innovate during this tough time.
Roslina Arbak, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Desaru Coast, said in a statement on Thursday (Jul 22): “We are honoured to be globally recognised by such a renowned publication and we are proud to fly the flag for both Johor and Malaysia.
“This is an outstanding achievement for a team only two years in operations, and after what has been and continues to be a challenging time for the industry. With this notable feather in our cap, we look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world once travel resumes.”
Other places from Southeast Asia that made it into the TIME’s list include Vietnam’s Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc, Philippines’ Siargao, Singapore, as well as Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park and Bangkok.
