Singaporean Mandopop artist JJ Lin has been nominated for Best Southeast Asia Act for the MTV EMAs (Europe Music Awards) 2021.
Lin has been singing in Mandarin for most of his career, with a few English songs hidden in some of his 14 albums.
Earlier this year, the 40-year-old released his first English album, Like You Do, which features a collaboration with UK pop artist Anne-Marie in the song Bedroom.
He also recently performed the electropop song Lose Control for the soundtrack of the Hollywood film Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings.
Other nominees for the Southeast Asian Act include SB19 from the Philippines, Ink Waruntorn from Thailand, K-ICM from Vietnam, Lyodra from Indonesia and Naim Daniel from Malaysia.
Local electronic artist Jasmine Sokko won the award in 2019, beating out popular regional names such as Yuna from Malaysia and Rich Brian from Indonesia, who is currently managed under the 88rising label.
Currently, Canadian singer Justin Bieber is in the lead of the EMAs with eight nominations, followed by Doja Cat and Lil Nas X with six nominations each. Ed Sheeran and newcomers Olivia Rodrigo and The Kid Laroi are not too far off behind with five nominations each.
Voting for the artists can be done here until Nov 10, 11.59pm CET (Nov 11, 5.59am Singapore time).
