Jack Neo to release ‘I Not Stupid 3’, online casting call open till May 15

Online open casting calls for Jack Neo’s new film I Not Stupid 3 have begun.

Following previous films in the franchise I Not Stupid (2002) and sequel I Not Stupid Too (2006), movie studio MM2 Entertainment and production house J Team have uploaded posts to their social media platforms calling for applicants for the third instalment of the series.

I Not Stupid follows the story of three boys who struggle in school for being placed in the ‘EM3’ academic stream, which is deemed as inferior to the EM1 and EM2 stream. EM3 was part of the now-defunct streaming system used in Primary schools. Its syllabus included foundation-level English, Mathematics and Mother Tongue.

I Not Stupid Too retained some of the original cast members and covers the topic of strained parent-child relationships and teenage angst.

The first film amassed over $3.8 million at the box office, while its sequel earned over $4 million.

After 17 years of the release of I Not Stupid Too, Jack Neo intends to produce a third film to the franchise.

Interested applicants are to film a video of themselves acting out one of two character profiles in particular scenarios.

The first character profile is a student aged eight to 14 years old. The applicant may choose to act out either scenario of exposing a person they dislike for cheating to their teacher, consoling a friend who is upset about failing an exam or failing an exam and being scolded by a parent.

The second character profile is a mother aged 30 to 50 years old. The scenarios include harshly scolding her child for failing an exam, an overly indulgent mother who gives in to her child, and a single mother who expresses her hopes for her child to succeed in life.

Applicants are required to deliver their performances in English and Mandarin for the casting.

Audition tapes are to be uploaded to Instagram, Facebook or Tiktok with the hashtags #inotstupid3 and #小孩不笨3 and tags @jteamsg and @mm2singapore by May 15, 11.59pm.
