IMPACT 0509: DEAF DANCER WANTS TO BRIDGE THE GAP

Greetings! I’m Ammar! Answering the question “who am I?” is tricky, because people have called me a dancer, a performer, a choreographer, a video editor, a filmmaker and an artist.

All in all, I spend most of my time creating stories and I am proud to say I am a deaf jack-of-all-trades. Yes, you heard me right – I have a disability and that is being deaf. I was born with hearing and became deaf growing up. I have witnessed and identified many differences and similarities in both worlds. Despite my deafness, I have had a passion for dance since young.

My work is focused primarily on the relationship between my body, disability and music. In my work, I always emphasize that my talent is first, disability second. My goal is to integrate the relationship between deaf and hearing, to spread a message that both worlds can work together.
