IMPACT 0488: SHIFTING THE PERCEPTION OF LUXURY: MEANING IN SUSTAINABILITY
Hi! I am Emily Sim and I’m 34 this year! I am a 2nd Generation entrepreneur in the timber distribution business.
I realized that wood is unsustainable and the way that people consume timber is bad for the environment. As a person that craves meaning in my work, I decided to transform the business to distribute sustainable alternatives, shifting the perception of luxury from what is rare to what is innovative.
It’s not only about whether we use an item or not but also about using it purposefully and thoughtfully. I hope to inspire business, brands, and individuals to be open to the possibilities of upcycling and becoming mindful when building spaces. Sustainability is a way of life we should continuously practice. Little by little we will build a better, more conscious world.
“My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends – it gives a lovely light!” – Edna St. Vincent Millay
