IMPACT 0402: CREATING A COMMUNITY OF AVID BAKERS
Hey everyone! I’m Javier Tan and I’m the founder of a baking blog Bakeomaniac, where I share my baking tips and recipes for those who might be getting into the craft!
My love and passion for baking started when I was 15 after my parents bought an oven for my sister and I. This sparked a chain of events starting with me learning to bake my first batch of cookies. Paired with the encouragement of my family and friends, I decided to keep at it to see what else I could make. Since then, I would like to think that my skills have improved considerably and now I’m at a stage where I can create my own recipes!
Part of the joy of being able to bake my own creations is that I get to satisfy my cravings at a fraction of the costs. Sharing these recipes so that others can enjoy them as well is also very fulfilling! I see baking as a way to share a piece of love that I constructed with my effort with those around me – to show them that I appreciate their presence and support!
Most recently, I have been contributing to an initiative called Heart Bakers @ North East CDC. This is a programme that equips stay-at-home mothers and aspiring home bakers from underprivileged families with necessary certification and skills, with the hope that they will be able to start their own small businesses.
My hope for anyone reading is that you’ll be inspired by the journey that I’ve been on, and I also hope that maybe one day you’ll pick up that whisk and bake away! Let’s create a community where we can all grow together as bakers!
