IMPACT 0375: TAKING A STAND AGAINST SCAMS
Hello! I’m Nurul Atikah, a 21-year-old passionate about preventing e-commerce scams in Singapore on platforms like Carousell and Facebook. I am someone who can bequite gullible when it comes to sellers who list unreasonably low prices, but have thankfully never been a victim of online scams. But two years ago, one of my close friends was scammed by scammers who were touting their products at unbelievably low prices.
I took part in the “Tik Tok Scam Stop” contest in 2021 with a video on a Carousell shopping scam that also included tips on safe online shopping and managed to come in 1st place! I wanted to play my part in reminding my loved ones and others on the importance of being extra careful when making online transactions.
Online scams will be hard to stop, but it is possible to prevent more of them by spreading awareness and educating each other. I hope to be able to help those around me by trying to bring more information about the potential ways that scams may take place!
