IMPACT 0339: CREATING UNCONVENTIONAL DANCE PERFORMANCES ON STAGE
I’m Norhaizad Adam and I’m 35 this year! I’m a dance artist and the artistic director of P7:1SMA (pronounced Prisma), a dance company that creates the intersections of tradition and contemporary. I was conferred the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council in 2021.
I create performances onstage and unconventional spaces as part of my work. I believe dance can create meaningful connections between people and the environment. I find my inspirations through the Malay dance, but constantly strive to find new purposes for it. It’s an artform that I thoroughly enjoy and love – especially when it comes to the experience of sharing it with others.
I have presented my dance works in Venice, Melbourne, Taipei, Paris, Vienna, Bandung and notable events in Singapore. As the world is transiting into the digital era, I hope dance can remind us about the beauty of being alive and preserve our humanity.
