IMPACT 0253: RETELLING FORGOTTEN STORIES THROUGH FOOD

Firdaus Sani is the founder of Orang Laut Singapore. “Orang Laut” translates from Malay to “Sea People” in English, which refers to indigenous people in Singapore. As someone who believes that traditions that are unpracticed and unrecorded will be lost in time, Firdaus uses food to retell stories from Orang Laut families who live on Pulau Semakau, an island located to the south of the main island of Singapore, more commonly known today as a landfill.
