IKEA releases new book discussing sustainability around the world
Produced through a collaboration between IKEA and Phaidon, "Us & Our Planet: This is How We Live" seeks to explore sustainability in the ways we live.
IKEA has just released a new book titled Us & Our Planet: This is How We Live. The book delves deep into the world of twelve everyday people across the globe.
From activists to athletes and even young families, the book examines their ways of life and how they contribute to a better world.
These case studies are inspired by IKEA’s life at home visits which has been ongoing since the 1950s, enabling them to learn more about the way people live and how their daily lives at home can be improved.
The book also features some of IKEA’s most iconic products stemming from this approach over the past 70 years.
Us & Our Planet is categorised into six thematic chapters – Time, Space, Food, Rest, Play, and Togetherness.
A notable example under Togetherness features Singapore’s Soh family, who built a twenty-first century community hub, also known as the “One Kind House”. The community hub comprises their family home, an urban farm garden, a cooking school, and a research-and-development lab.

To further promote this theme of living healthier and more sustainably, IKEA Singapore is hosting a Life at Home Contest for all IKEA Family members from Mar 10 to Mar 27. Participants can stand a chance to win a $1000 IKEA gift card as well as a copy of the book.
To participate, head to IKEA.sg/lifeathome and share three to five photos with a short personal story about their life at home in regards to one of the seven themes – Time, Space, Food, Rest, Play, Togetherness or Sustainability.
Additionally, IKEA Family members are also entitled to a free copy of the book in-stores starting from Mar 10 onwards. To redeem a free copy, they can simply seek out a co-worker and flash their IKEA Family membership card (digital or physical) at any of the following locations:
- IKEA Jurong, Level 3 entrance Level 2 Customer Service area
- IKEA Alexandra, L1 entrance near Swedish Food Market
- IKEA Tampines, Level 3 entrance outside Småland
The book can also be found on phaidon.com, and will be available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
