IKEA’s flat-pack furniture is notoriously difficult to assemble, even with an instruction manual.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that, when people move house, they would rather not disassemble and pack their IKEA furniture. Instead, they usually dispose of their bulky furniture.

However, that is soon to change – the Swedish furniture company just released step-by-step visual guides for safely and correctly disassembling their furniture.

Currently, the disassembly guides are only available for six IKEA products. However, the brand plans to include disassembly instruction manuals with every product purchased from IKEA by 2030.

IKEA hopes that these guides can encourage people to extend the life cycle of their furniture.

This move is in line with IKEA’s efforts to be more sustainable.

IKEA said: “Extending the life of your furniture with our disassembly instructions is one of the ways we’re building on our commitment to sustainability. Taking it apart correctly reduces the risk of damage, and reduces its impact on the environment.”

On top of aiming to be a circular business by 2030, the company recently released an online cookbook with recipes for cooking with kitchen scraps.
