HDB expands internship opportunities to both TP, SP students for next 3 years
Through the two new agreements, students from Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic will learn to engage residents and seniors as well as implement outreach activities.
The Housing and Development Board (HDB) will offer internship opportunities to students in Temasek Polytechnic’s gerontology programme and Singapore Polytechnic’s integrated events and project management programme from May 2022 to May 2025.
The internship programme is part of a three-year Memoranda of Understanding with both polytechnics, as part of HDB’s goal of nurturing a generation of youths as community leaders.
Speaking at the Friends of Our Heartlands Volunteer Engagement Day last Sunday (May 29), Second Minister for National Development Indranee Rajah said the student interns will be able to attend seminars and internships at HDB as well as community engagements.
“They will also learn how to engage residents and seniors effectively and meaningfully, and tap on their skills to design, and implement outreach activities,” Ms Indranee said.
Prior to the new signings, HDB’s partnership with Temasek Polytechnic had been established since 2019, through which over 500 students who took the programme helped 6,300 senior residents residing in the Eastern and North-Eastern parts of Singapore.
The renewal with Temasek polytechnic will allow students to continue planning and carrying out activities tailored to help elderly residents remain healthy, active, and involved, Ms Indranee said.
As for HDB’s new partnership with Singapore Polytechnic, she said students will learn to foster community bonding amongst new homeowners.
