Golden Village, The Projector partnership to replace Cathay Cineplex at Cineleisure
Cathay Cineplexes will vacate the mall by the end of June.
A partnership between Golden Village and The Projector is set to replace Cathay Cineplex at the Cineleisure building in Grange Road.
Named Golden Village X The Projector at Cineleisure (GV X TP), the collaboration is slated for launch in December and movies are scheduled to start screening by the end of the year.
It replaces Cathay Cineplex, which will hold its last day of screenings at Cineleisure on Jun 30, according to The Straits Times.
In a press release, Golden Village and The Projector said they envisioned the space at Cineleisure as a co-sharing space between the two movie operators. Three cinema halls will be owned by Golden Village to screen blockbuster movies, while the other three will be used by The Projector to offer a diverse range of independent, arthouse, foreign, cult classics and documentary films.
New F&B outlets offering a variety of food options will also be managed by The Projector.
Chief Executive Officer of Golden Village, Clara Cheo, said that the partnership with The Projector is “truly a next step forward for the entertainment scene in Singapore”.
“This collaboration will allow fans of film, art and culture to experience a myriad of activities, be it movies, music, performances or just simply having a drink or meal at our cafe,” she added.
Aside from movie screenings and F&B outlets, GV X TP will host live music sessions, art showcases and fun interactive screenings, where The Projector will continue to collaborate with independent arts and music collectives to bring more non-film content which include music, comedy, panels, festivals, art exhibitions and popup markets.
Karen Tan, co-founder of The Projector, shared that the company is “excited to meet new audiences and grow its community” from the partnership.
“With this new space, we continue our commitment to provide an alternative and accessible cultural space for healthy dialogue that broadens perspectives, raises social awareness and effects social change through film, art, food, and events,” she said.
In the build up to the official opening, The Projector will be operating a pop-up cafe, bar and live event space at Cineleisure from July to December.
