After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular Ramadan bazaar may be back, but on a smaller scale as compared to the previous bazaar events.

According to BERITA Mediacorp, the People’s Association has been calling for tenders since Mar 1 for a ‘Geylang Serai Hari Raya Shopping Experience 2022’ that will run during the fasting month which is Apr 2 to May 2. Applications for the tenders will be closed on Mar 14.

The bazaar is expected to open from 1pm to 10pm and will comprise two zones around the Geylang Serai Wisma building with only a maximum of 20 stalls at each zone.

In the past, the bazaar has become popular for its Instagram-worthy ‘hipster’ food but this year, organisations must ensure that three out of five food stalls should be selling traditional Hari Raya food while the remaining can be contemporary food. There should also not be more than eight food stalls.

In addition, four out of five non-food stalls should cater to the Hari Raya festivities such as clothes and accessories. This means that there should be a variety of stalls to cater to everyone’s needs.

Safe management measures will also be placed to ensure public safety during the event period. Walkways should be three metre wide and only two stall operators should be present per stall at any given time. These stalls should also have a designated area for serving.

Along with that, all staff including cleaners and stall operators will have to take their temperature twice a day.
