Flying taxi exhibition launches at ITE College Central, guided tours to start in August
The guided tours will be free of charge.
A commercial air taxi, VoloCity, is on display at a public exhibition launched by German urban air mobility company Volocopter in partnership with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
The exhibition, launched on Tuesday (Jul 12), is held at the Aerospace Hub in ITE College Central. This is the company’s first exhibition in Asia which features the VoloCity, and is also its first-ever long term exhibition in the world.
Visitors will be able to view a 3D scale model of a VoloPort, which is the physical infrastructure required for air taxis to take off and land.
They will also get an opportunity to sit in the aircraft to get a sense of what it feels like.
Singapore is one of the first launch cities for Volocopter. The company had previously conducted Asia’s first crewed public test flight of an air taxi in a city centre over Marina Bay in 2019.
Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, who attended the exhibition’s opening ceremony on Tuesday (Jul 12) said: “Singapore welcomes innovative companies like Volocopter which seek to build entirely new industries here.
“We are excited about the prospects of developing an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem in Singapore, and hope that through this exhibit, the public can learn more about this new form of urban mobility.”
Starting from August, there will also be guided tours with urban air mobility experts who will explain the technology behind the electric air taxis.
Currently, dates for the public tours have been confirmed from August to October.
The guided tours will be free of charge with new dates set to be announced in due time.
Those who are interested can book their tour slots on Volocopter’s Eventbrite page.
